Course Qualification
We offer the Level 3 Diploma in Health & Social Care (Adults) for England (QCF) which is a nationally industry recognized qualification based on the Health and Social Care National Occupation Standards approved by Skills for Care & Development.
The qualification is recognised by care providers, the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and nursing universities and confirms competence in the following areas:
- Senior Care Assistants, Support Workers and Key Workers in residential settings, domiciliary services and day service
- Senior Healthcare Assistants and Support Workers in community care, primary care, and acute health environments
- Senior Support Workers in supported living projects
- Community-based Senior Care Assistants, Support Workers and Key Workers including those working in specialist areas such as dementia and learning difficulties
- Personal Assistants employed directly by the individual they support or their families
- Emerging new types of workers & multidisciplinary health roles crossing traditional service barriers and delivery models
The qualification contains 9 mandatory units:

- Unit 01 - Principles of safeguarding and protection in health and social care (3 credits)
- Unit 02 - The role of the health and social care worker (2 credits)
- Unit 03 - Promote person-centred approaches in health and social care (6 credits)
- Unit 04 - Promote and implement health and safety in health and social care (6 credits)
- Unit 05 - Promote good practice in handling information in health and social care settings (2 credits)
- Unit 06 - Promote communication in health, social care or children's and young people's settings (3 credits)
- Unit 07 - Engage in personal development in health, social care or children's and young people's settings (3 credits)
- Unit 08 - Promote equality and inclusion in health, social care or children's and young people's settings (2 credits)
- Unit 09 - Principles for implementing duty of care in health, social care or children's and young people's settings (1 credit)
How you will be assessed
To successfully complete each mandatory and optional unit, each learner must provide evidence satisfying all the performance and knowledge standards in that unit.
As this is a competence-based qualification you will be assessed in a real work environment. Therefore, you will need to be working or have a work placement within a health and social Care environment. There are no minimum requirements of hours for a placement, however you will need to ensure you have completed the sufficient hours planned and agreed with the assessor to enable you to develop and show evidence of your skills.
Progression Routes
This competence-based qualification can provide progression to further qualifications at Level 4 in the same and related subject areas. It is anticipated that learners will progress to the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People's Services (England) (QCF) or to specialist qualifications reflecting the context in which they work.
